Dealing with Temptation
Mark 14:26-31, 66-72
1. Temptation is always present calling us to be offended by Christ.
What is temptation?
Temptation is any thing, person, or circumstance that has the effect of drawing our hearts and minds away from obedience to God toward any degree of disobedience.
From where does it come?
1. It does not come from God. James 1
2. Sometimes Satan tempts singly by himself.
3. Sometimes he makes use of the world.
4. Sometimes he gains help in tempting us from our own flesh.
James 1:13-15
2. What protection is there for us in the midst of temptation?
1 Co 10:13
1. Stop hoping in yourself.
“Generally,” says Owen, “men’s hearts deceive them no more than they trust them, and then they never fail to do so.” [Works, vol 6, p. 106]
2. Watch and pray.
1. Always bear in mind the dangers of falling into temptation.
2. Always pray that God will keep you from falling under temptation.
John 17:15; Isaiah 35:8 Heb 4:14-16
3. What do we do when we fall into and embrace temptation?
