Sermon Outline

The Reality of Hell

Matthew 25:31-46

1.  Hell is real, an actual place.

2.  Jesus says hell is separation from God

2 Thes 1:9; Psalm 139:8; Rev 14:9; Luke 16:19-31

3.  Hell is for the accursed ones.

Gal 3:10; John 3:18; Is 64:6; Isaiah 61:10; 2 Co 5:21

4.  Hell is eternal.

            Annihilationism is wrong because:

This ignores the greatness of the person sinned against.

This ignores the fact that sin is eternal.

5.  Hell is a fire.

The nature of the fire is uncertain and may be symbolic.

            1.  Because hell is a place of darkness.

2.  Maybe the fire is symbolic of something much worse.

6.  It is a prepared place.

            Isaiah 30:33

7.  It is an eternity with the devil and his angels. V 41

Three conclusions:

Hell is inevitable apart from Christ.

Hell is inescapable once you are there.

            Hell is avoidable.
