Jun 22 2008 | AM Worship Sermon | A Church To Be Thankful For (Colossians 1:3-8) | Paul Stith |
A Church To Be Thankful For
Colossians 1:3-8
1. They had a faith
you could see 1:4a
In Christ
they have a new object of devotion.
They have a new king
2. They had a love
you could see 1:4b
Indiscriminate
love
Costly love
Spirit animated love (see 1:8)
3. Their faith and
love were based on a certain hope
4. Their growth depended upon continuing as they had begun 5b-7a
Do you pray for your church, your pastors, your deacons,
your brothers and sisters in Christ?
Does your assurance spring from a robust love for Christ that issues forth in obedience? How have you seen that obedience expressed lately?
Does your assurance spring forth from a love for
others? How have you seen that love
expressed in recent days?
How do you find yourself motivated to love Christ and others? Wherein lies your hope? Do you meditate on that hope specifically and biblically?
Are you convinced of the truth and sufficiency of the Gospel? How does this help you fight the temptation to embrace or long for anything alongside or in addition to the Gospel of Christ?
