Jesus Christ, the Gift of the New Creation
Colossians 1:18-23


1. The text does not open the door to universalism, but declares Jesus to be Lord of the New creation vv19-20


2. The Gospel had not yet been preached in every place v. 23


3. The greatest gift of the Gospel is God himself.

Initiated by God.

Needed desperately by man

Mediated by the blood of Jesus’ cross

Reconciliation to God as the greatest of all gifts v 22b

Psalm 70:4 “May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, “God is great”!

Psalm 16:5 “The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup.”

Psalm 42:1, 2 “AS a deep pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?”

2 Co 5:8 “We would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

Phi 1:23 “To be with Christ, that is far better.”
