Growth that Comes from God
Colossians 2:16-19

1. Growth from God does not consist of behavior modification 16-17

Diets do not produce growth Mark 7:14-23; Acts 10:13-16

The same can be said for special Days. Hebrews 9:11-12; Hebrews 10:1

2. Growth from God does not consist of mystical experiences 18

3. Growth from God consists of clinging to Christ, our head 19

So our first principle is this:

Clinging to Christ is not a result of religious duties, but is itself a gracious work of God in us.

A second principle is this:

Clinging to Christ involves universal obedience to Christ.

1 John 3:2-6 ; John 14:21 21


Third principle

Clinging to Christ involves persevering, diligent and whole-hearted service of God. Titus 2:14 14; Phil 3:12-14

“That true faith, by which persons rely on the righteousness of Christ, and the work that he has done for them, and truly feed and live upon him, is evermore accompanied with a sprit of earnestness in the Christian work and course.” [Edwards, Religious Affections, p. 311.]
