Outline
The Spirit-filled Marriage
Colossians 3:18-19
God is saying that Christian marriage is radically different
from the prevailing cultural norms.
1. Discerning Biblical direction for our marriages
Wives are directed to submit to their husbands. This involves joyful, intelligent affirmation of her husbands leadership.
Husbands are directed to love their wives. This involves Christ-like leadership, protection and provision.
Are these commands still in effect in our day?
There is nothing in our text that indicates the commands are culture-specific.
Culture does not determine what is right, the Bible does.
The command is timeless because it is rooted in creation.
The Bible
contains no indictments against loving headship or joyful submission.
2. Discovering divine provision for our marriages
The pattern for living out the commands is that of Christ and the church
The power for living out the commands is the grace of God.
