Worship and Evangelism
Matthew 28:16-20
1. Evangelism begins with worship given to Jesus Christ (16-17)
2. Evangelism is a response of confidence in and submission to Christ. (18-20a)
While on earth Jesus demonstrated his authority over
sickness (Matt 4:23; 9:35)
demons (Matt 4:24; 8:32)
death (Mk 5:41-42)
and sin (Matt 9:6)
He holds the keys to eternal life and eternal judgment (Jn 5:27-29; 17:2)
Daniel 7:13-14
Matt 11:27; John 3:35; John 17:2; 1 Co 15:27; Heb 1:2; 2:8; 1 Peter 3:22; Eph 1:20-22
Also, evangelism is submission to Christ. This call is to go and
Make disciples.
Baptizing them.
Teaching them obedience. John 14:23-24
3. Evangelism rests in and depends on the presence and power of Jesus Christ (20b)
Evangelism is not hard for God. Lazarus, come forth. (John 11)
The Holy Spirit is here to help us obey God and to call sinners to repentance and faith.
The Holy Spirit is here to help us not be afraid.
The Holy Spirit is here to help us know what to say.
The Holy Spirit is working before we speak to people, but we do now know where he is working or with whom, so we feel confident to liberally spread the seed of Gods word to anyone who will listen.
The Holy Spirit is promised to those who will pray and ask the Father, so we pray and ask for all these things, because we know this is Gods will.
