How to Leave Your Church
Acts 20:18-25
1. Church members should be equipped to know if, when and how they
should leave in a God-honoring, spiritually healthy way.
2. When should you leave your church?
a. Extreme cases
b. Sometimes you need to leave your local church to serve the
body elsewhere.
c. You need to leave if the church is teaching or practicing
serious error.
d. What about less serious error?
i. How serious is the error? Is it serious enough to have a
noticeable effect on my life and growth and worship as a Christian?
ii. What are the alternatives?
iii. What impact will my leaving have on my service to Gods
people?
iv. How much legitimate influence do I have to promote
biblical change?
e. You dont need to leave if:
i. you have a minor disagreement over doctrine or practice.
ii. you have a personal conflict with someone in the body.
iii. you have different personal preferences that have
nothing to do with biblical principle.
3. How should you leave your church?
a. Pray.
b. Move slowly and carefully.
c. Show respect to your current spiritual leaders.
d. It is normal and healthy to experience pain.
4. The church is the ordinary avenue for the highest blessing there
isthe blessing of fellowship with God and his people.
